Happy Valentine's Day

A sweet little poem I wrote quite some time agao. Happy Valentine's Day!

Welcome to My World of Playful Romance

Are you looking for angst driven heroes with tattoos, maybe a beard, hair in a top knot, and perhaps some serious issues to overcome? Well then, sorry, but you're in the wrong place!

What you will find here are playful heroes and heroines, lighthearted humor and an occasional problem to overcome, but most of all, lots of laughter and happy endings.
There are one or two stories that are a little more serious, but they too become light and playful as the story progresses.
Gems for example begins with a small child in need of help, and a determined cowboy and a billionairess, but soon turns playful and has a very unusual and, of course, very happy ending.
If you are an animal lover, then I think you will find The Starlight Walk (Books 1-4)  to your taste. You'll find a lovable pug, two Saint Bernards (who appear briefly) and a large ginger Tomcat.
Do you like Cowboys?  The Rainesville Ranchers  Six very lovable and playful cowboys meet their matches.
Angels? The Billionaire's Angel  A matchmaking angel finds a lonely billionaire his match.
Paranormal? A Mystical Fantasy Duet of Love Stories  Two unusual love stories, the first an other worldly romantic fantasy, the second a story of telekinesis (what would you do if you could move objects with only your thoughts?)
History? Then you need A Contemporary Countess  a history loving former American foster child with a love of English history meets her playful English Earl.
Ghosts? You will find them in Heiress
Heroines with minor disabilities? The Menace and also Heiress
Regency? Cat and Mouse
Murder? Then you need Murder at La Marionette Hotel  and yes, it's pretty much a romantic comedy/cozy murder mystery.
I hope you will look around my blog to read the full descriptions and follow the links to Amazon, my books will soon be available on more venues, but until then, just Amazon sites worldwide.
Thanks for visiting, please feel free to leave me a message and say hello.

Just a few thoughts on how we feature animals in our novels.

You may have noticed, (grin) that several of my books feature animals! In my novel A Contemporary Countess  I give my secondary character Pailing, the Duchess of Great Lomond, a favorite pastime, a love of dogs, in particular, Mastiffs.

Every author pulls something from their own lives, loves, and hobbies to give to their characters and here is one of mine: An English Mastiff. I had one of my own who was a great big pussycat, sweet, gentle natured and a therapy dog to boot.

Mastiffs are a giant gentle breed, very smart, cuddly and couch potatoes at heart!

Mastiffs, St. Bernards and Newfoundlands, (commonly known as Newfies), are all part of the Molossa breed, belonging to the same family of huge dogs with similar personalities and temperaments. If you own one of these majestic beasts, you know that you don’t really own them, they own you! They choose to obey because they love you and want your company, not because they have to.

My Mastiff outweighed me by about fifty pounds. He chose to do as he was told.

Mastiffs were known throughout history as 'the dogs of kings'. Can you imagine them laying in front of the huge open fireplaces they had back then?

In Murder at La Marionette Hotel  my heroine has a pet Mastiff called Harvey, and in my novella Heiress  my heroine has a Newfie. Newfoundlands are lovable and cute, and also great swimmers, few people know that they actually have webbed feet.
There are two animal characters in  The Starlight Walk (Books 1-4)  Rugly the pug, and Horatio the cat, and just a brief mention of two adorable St. Bernards.
In Romancing the Billionaire's Daughter, there are four white rats, a lovable horse and a miniature Greek fainting goat. And in  The Menace (A Romantic Comedy)  an adorable puppy.
Animals enhance our lives and our stories in so many ways, and they are just plain fun to be around! That being said, not all of my books contain animals, but they generally do contain lots of playful characters and humor!

The Starlight Walk

The Starlight Walk, is a collection of four music themed romantic comedy novellas all taking place on Madison City's Starlight Walk. They have all been published individually and now are available as a set.

The Starlight Walk, consists of four novellas each taking place on the Starlight Walk in Madison City.
(Please note that each of these stories have also been published individually.)

It Will Always Be You
When Regan Jordan and her best friend Elsie acquired tickets to their all-time favorite TV talk show The Lundquist Hour on their summer vacation to Madison City, they had no idea it would a life changing event.
When special guest, Broadway legend and music superstar Loretta Lindstrom unexpectedly leaves the live show early, host Thorndike Lundquist must find a way to fill in the remainder of the hour.
Regan, at Elsie's urging gets up to sing. She has been compared by friends and family to Loretta for years. Though she has never taken any of it seriously; she's a receptionist, singing is something she does for fun. But Regan's tribute to Loretta is amazing, and Vance, Thorne's producer, knows the viewing audience will want to see more of her.
Regan who is sweet but also very strong and independent becomes an overnight sensation. With the help of Thorne and her long time idol and new friend Loretta Lindstrom, she embarks upon a journey to stardom. Regan finds herself falling for the handsome talk show host, but though he is kind, Thorne is also domineering and it is inevitable that sparks will fly.

Really and Truly
When pianist Josephine Truly was invited by her old friend and songstress Regan Jordan to visit Madison City to appear on her husband’s afternoon talk show The Lundquist Hour, Josie knew she couldn’t resist. The only problem is that Josie has always been more of a shy retiring sort; playing the piano in the background for other people rather than being center stage. She had played for Regan back in their hometown before she became famous. Attempting to fill time and quell her nerves, Josie goes out to dinner alone the night before her scheduled TV appearance, unfortunately, Josie realizes too late that she has forgotten her wallet and can’t even call Regan—the only person she knows in town—as she’s just gone into labor with her first child. Josie is forced to explain herself to tall, handsome restaurant owner Randolfo Tarino.
When Thorne, Regan’s husband, delighted at becoming a new father, decides to put the show into reruns for a week, Josie’s performance is rescheduled and she has a week to fill in a beautiful Madison City, and a very interesting and fun-loving Italian restaurant owner to get to know.

A Starlight Walk Christmas

At eighteen years old, alone, pregnant and with no secure future, aspiring singer Leandra Kelly gave up her baby for adoption. Doing what she thought was best for him, she handed him into the arms of her older infertile best friend who longed for a child.
Twenty-one years later, on his birthday, Doyle arrives at the Starlight Walk in search of the woman who gave him up, now a thirty-nine year old world famous rock star.
When Lea receives an alert from his adoptive mother where to find Doyle, she approaches the young man at the Starlight Walk fountain and they spend the day together, but she is not sure if he knows who she is, or if he believes that they are two strangers who met in the spirit of the season.
This is a short and sweet tale of love, second chances, and new beginnings. And there are surprises in store for both of them.

The Starlight

When Nuncio Tarino decides to move to Madison City to open first a classic car showroom, and then a night club on the Starlight Walk, he gets just a little more than he bargains for. On the club’s opening night, alerted to unusual sounds in the back alley, he discovers Horatio, a large orange feline being pursued by animal rescuer Dulcinea Devenforth. Nuncio hadn’t planned on adopting a cat, he’d never had one before, but there is something about Dulcie that has the notorious playboy doing just that, and something else he’d never anticipated doing before. Falling in love.
Join Nuncio and Dulcie, two people from very different worlds and backgrounds in The Starlight.

Some people have asked me about the Starlight Walk. What is it? And where is it? So here goes!
Well, the Starlight Walk is in Madison City, Wisconsin. It is the hub of all things musical and entertainment for that region.
Many well known stars live there. As you get to know the books you will find these venues:

The T.V studios for Thorne's talk show. The Lundquist Hour
Madison's Central Square Plaza Hotel.
The Starlight Fountain with it's modern art cascade of stars, moons and suns.
Central Towers, a pair of blue glass towers with views of the Starlight Walk where many of the elite live.
La Marionette Hotel.
Bandolero's Hotel.
The Starlight, Nuncio Tarino's nightclub.
Tarino's Italian Garden, Randolfo Tarino's restaurant, though it undergoes a name change to Truly Tarino.
Doyle's Place, a nightclub owned by Leyla Leona.

I picture The Starlight Walk itself as a combination of The Champs Elysees and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Starlight Walk is lined with sun and half moon shaped stones bearing the names of many famous stars, the trees are lit with fairy lights year round, and the Starlight Fountain is at its heart, reminding me of Place de la Concorde on the Champs Elysees, Paris.
There is a Christmas Parade every year with numerous floats which usually ends with a concert in the center of the walk by the Starlight Fountain.
The venues give the perfect settings for many opportunities for love and romance. And make each book uniquely different. Hard to believe it's fiction. Right?

Gems

Gems (It’s not about diamonds)

From an incredibly stressful beginning to an amazingly happy and unusual ending. I hope you will follow Jace and Samantha’s love story as they navigate through each other’s worlds and try to meet in the middle.

When a six foot four dark haired, blue-eyed cowboy leaps over the wall into billionaire Samantha Amethyst Silverstone’s garden one evening, she is fascinated. Both by his determination to bypass her security and his looks. He must need something pretty badly to be here.
She watches his progress toward her house through her security cameras with her butler and close confidante Oliver.
Jace is a man on a mission—he needs funds to send his ailing niece Gem to an exclusive Swiss clinic for treatment and he’s not leaving without making his request for assistance to Samantha in person. And if that means breeching the walls of her mansion, so be it.
However, soon lonely Samantha has a request of her own. Marriage. And definitely not a marriage of convenience. Her request leaves Jace reeling. Marriage to a delicate woman who wears silks and lace, doesn’t own a pair of jeans, and rides sidesaddle? He’s a down to earth no-nonsense cowboy who spends his days working his ranch and tending his horses, he lives in jeans and cowboy boots …could they possibly make it work?
But there are some unusual surprises along the way. As Samantha gets to know little Gem, she realizes that the girl bears an uncanny resemblance to herself as a child, and when in Europe she discovers another mysterious lookalike in a fashion magazine, a woman so like her that even Jace is fooled into thinking it is her. As the situation progresses a strange connection between the three lookalikes reveals itself that will have Samantha turning to Jace for emotional support and it goes far beyond the fact all three girls have gems as their middle names.
A little girl, a cowboy, a billionairess and an unusual link with an enigmatic butler make up this playful yet touching story.
A joyful ending guaranteed.

Excerpts

Sometimes it is hard to judge a book by its brief summary or vibrant cover. Many of us shop on our kindles or other devices and it's not always easy to tell if the book is to our taste or not. I admit I am a very picky reader, even though I am a writer. I absolutely must have a happy ending, and I like troubled moments to be brief, the Amazon's Look Inside feature gives us all a chance to read a number of pages, but it isn't available on every device. Sometimes the beginning of a book doesn't always tell us what to expect later on.
I have decided to begin posting excerpts from my books here on my blog to give a hint of what lies later on between the pages, beginning with my book Gems (It's not about diamonds).

Gems is a book that is slightly hard to categorize. It contains a wide variety of characters, an enigmatic butler, a lonely billionairess, a determined cowboy, and a sweet little girl in need of treatment, plus moments of humor and an element of mystery that ties all these characters together in the end.

Here is an excerpt from Chapter Two:

Samantha Amethyst Silverstone watched in fascination as a tall lean cowboy climbed the wall into her home; the security camera clearly showed a large dark horse on the other side of the wall, probably an Arabian. What did he think he was doing? It was odd, he didn’t look menacing, but then not many people who committed crimes did. Looks were apparently no way to judge since most people looked like they were posing for mug shots on their ID cards. She grinned glancing at the wall bearing the panel of photographs identifying her security staff, in looks alone, it would appear she was being guarded by a crew of humorless dour faced inmates. She highly doubted they’d appreciate the sentiment.

Oliver, her butler, had called her into the security room the instant the silent alarm had gone off as the man approached the perimeter. They’d told the security team to hold off for a while, they could handle it themselves.

“Shall we release the dogs, Sam?” he asked, arching a dark eyebrow.

“Hmm,” she thought for a moment, “Yes, Oliver, I think we will. I want to see his reaction.”

“Very well.”

Samantha watched the screen, with a push of a button she zoomed in on the face of her uninvited guest. The sudden ferocious sounds of barking dogs and animals running through the undergrowth didn’t seem to faze him particularly. He looked around cautiously, and then grinned, he obviously knew very well there were no dogs, and she’d thought the sound effects were quite convincing! They had always worked in the past to deter any intruders, sending them scurrying away in a hurry and negating the need for her security to staff to intervene and the local cops to be called.

Pushing a small yellow button on the panel, she turned on the sprinklers; the cowboy stood stock still as a sudden cascade of icy water gushed over him. Taking off his hat, he slapped it against his knee, wiped the water from his eyes with the sleeve of his denim jacket, and then calmly replacing the hat, glared toward the house and purposefully resumed his approach.

The doorbell rang loudly.

“And now, Sam?” Oliver asked, curious as to their next move.

“I think he deserves an audience, as he’s made it this far,” she smiled. “At least he had the courtesy to ring the bell. But don’t make it too easy on him. I want to see what he’s made of.” And to get some idea of how determined he was about whatever he needed, she thought. It must be something important for him to be so resolved.

Samantha Silverstone had more requests for donations and help each day than she could count. She couldn’t help them all or she would be bankrupt, and some turned out to be quite false. Every request was checked out, and nothing got by her investigative team. She grinned, some team, herself and Oliver! Oliver had come to work for her when she had first come to the United States; he’d showed up at her door, briefcase in hand asking for a job. Lips twitching, she remembered well how his brows had risen perceptibly, when after reviewing his very varied and accomplished resume and checking his references, she’d offered him the job as her butler! But it was more, much more than that. He was her personal bodyguard, her security specialist, her pilot, and her friend. He was old enough and protective enough to be her father, and acted almost like he was, without ever quite crossing the line of employer/employee. He was a real treasure and her right arm.

A Very Big Thank You!

A very big thank you to everyone who has downloaded my books. I hope you will check out my latest novella Murder at La Marionette Hotel, if you are a dog lover I am sure you will like Harvey, not only is he a lovable goofball like all Mastiffs, he has a key role in solving the murders and is a very good judge of character, as most dogs are! Even though this is a murder mystery, it is at heart a true romance, there are no gory details, and quite a bit of humor.

Murder at La Marionette Hotel (A Romantic Comedy Murder Mystery)

Murder at La Marionette Hotel

A contemporary romantic comedy murder mystery

When Lorne St. Patrick was young, like all kids, he dreamed of being a superstar. But he had something the other kids didn’t. An incredible voice, a talent for writing songs and fingertips that could coax exquisite notes from an acoustic guitar.
It wasn’t an easy road, but with hard work and patience, he had made it. But someone was trying to sabotage his success in the worst way possible. By murdering his fans.
Tennyson Astin was a lawyer, she’d become a lawyer, she admitted to her friend Detective Sergeant Aaran Mulaney, because when she was young she’d had no direction and had allowed her parents to coax her into it. What she really wanted to do, was write mystery novels. So with her background in law, and her new friendship with the local police force who allowed her to ride-along on their quiet nights, so she could gain an understanding of police procedure, she was well on her way to finishing her first novel.

Then came Lorne. The auburn haired singer with hazel eyes and the voice of an angel. Could he really be a murderer? The bodies were piling up. But with his almost angelic good looks and playful sense of humor, it hardly seemed possible.
Tenn and Aaran have been assigned to watch the rising star’s every move. But when another murder occurs while he is under their surveillance, that he couldn’t possibly have committed, Tenn agrees to pose as his fiancée during his stay in Madison City’s La Marionette hotel in the hope that they can smoke out the real killer. But will they be able to do that before one of them becomes the latest victim? And will performing in Madison City’s forties style dinner theater production of Murder at La Marionette lure out the killer or will someone else become the next victim?
An Irish singer, an American lawyer/wannabe mystery writer, a large and loveable English Mastiff named Harvey, three detectives and one very clever villain with an ax to grind make up this story.

How much is too much, information that is!

I always worry a little when I post a new synopsis if I am giving away too much information about the story or not quite enough to give a full impression of the true nature of the story. Finding a balance between spoilers and being too brief isn't easy. For example, in the synopsis for my book Gems (It's not about diamonds), although it is a story about a couple who come together over helping a sick little girl, it does have a very happy ending, contains lots of playful moments and has an interesting twist toward the end.
Frankly, my favorite character is Oliver the butler, what do you think?

What is romance?

What is romance? I think it varies from person to person, but personally, romance and humor go hand in hand. You have to be able to laugh at yourself and life in general sometimes. Of course, it does help if you don't laugh at inappropriate moments, oops yes, I do have a tendency to do that! But laughing when times get tough can strengthen a relationship. I've been married for twenty-seven years and the goofiest times are my favorite memories.

A Contemporary Countess

A former American foster child and a twenty-first century English Earl. What could they possibly have in common? They're about to find out!

A mischievous and sensual contemporary English Earl. A history loving American lottery winner, a potential marriage of convenience, lovable estate characters, the Earl's romantically inclined sister and her three playful old school friends, a Halloween ball, secret passages and ghosts stories, all make up the novel A Contemporary Countess.
Here is a longer preview:
When Darielle St.James became the sole winner of New York's biggest lottery jackpot in history, she knew her life was about to change. But even she had no idea how great that change would be.
After using her new found wealth to help her closest friends and her two foster brothers and sister, she set about assessing her own goals. Hounded by the curious press and fortune hunters, she moved into a small secure apartment building overlooking Central Park, and started work on her first novel. Now she had both the time and the means to write.
Online research for her novel, leads her to the estate of Adam Darfield, the Earl of Avanleigh, a struggling English aristocrat whose name is oddly similar to that of her Regency hero. Adam, she discovers has only recently inherited the title. He and his sister Susie run Avanleigh Estate, which is sadly in need of funds due to the enormous death taxes imposed at the loss of their father.
Dari's childhood dream of living in a beautiful stately home suddenly comes to the forefront, and she writes to Adam with an interesting proposal. She would like to come to Avanleigh for six weeks to write her novel in the historic setting for which she is willing to pay a large fee, giving them a chance to get to know each other, and if all goes well, to marry. Citing arranged marriages from the past, from Jennie Jerome to Consuelo Vanderbilt, Dari makes a good case.
Adam, stunned at the unusual request, is encouraged by his romantically inclined sister Susie to take Dari up on the offer. Six weeks will give him a chance to get to know the beautiful young American, and the fee she has offered will help with the taxes. While he is not committed to anything, marrying her would ensure the financial future of the estate for many generations to come. It was after all, what his own ancestors had done.
Dari arrives at Avanleigh to find both Adam and Susie are easy going and fun to be with. Things are going incredibly well. But as time goes on, both Dari and Adam, each begin to think the other is just a little too good to be true and are both afraid to hope that what is developing between them could be real.
When Susie's quirky and playful aristocratic friends from her childhood boarding school years arrive at the estate for their annual vacation, Dari discovers the truth. Adam has a reputation as an aristocratic playboy. From his youthful nickname the Voracious Viscount, to the current epithet the Randy Earl, his nicknames are numerous. Furious at her discovery, Dari confronts Adam, who reluctantly admits his past. But Adam has decided he adores the unpretentious Dari, and he convinces her to stay.
Dari is head over heels in love with Adam and loves the estate, with its historic connections to the infamous Henry the Eighth, ghost stories, hidden passageways and long time easy going staff. And Adam has awakened a sensual side in her that she did not know she possessed.
On the eve of her wedding, Dari and her new friends are celebrating her bachelorette party in the historic 'Henry Room' at the estate Dower House where the infamous king himself once slept, when they discover something that changes everything.

When Mirry who is heavily pregnant with her second child comes to the ranch house to discover the usually pristine home in total disarray, she renames them 'The two little pigs' and hires an adorable but feisty Italian cook/housekeeper.

Cash's Story. 'Last to Fall'

The Rainesville Ranchers. Who's your favorite character?

Have you read the Rainesville Ranchers? Who is your favorite character? Is it the stoic but gorgeous Royce, the ranch foreman, Trace the naughty but hurt neighbor, Eric the very responsible older brother, or Ben the playful youngest one? How about the two middle brothers, Jay the volatile one, or Cash the hold out, and also the last one in the family to find love until he's blindsided by a young English singer?
How about the girls? Miranda sure knows how to deal with her bossy brothers. Or Darcey, who runs The Golden Saloon and is used to being independent and taking care of herself. Or Isabella, the Italian chef with more than enough personality to keep the brothers and the ranch hands in line. How about Arianna who is sure she isn't about to fall for a naughty playful cowboy, but does anyway. Or perhaps it's Laney the one with the unusual past, or maybe Viola, the young English singer who finds more than she bargained for on her tour of the US.
I'd love to know!

What is your type?

The Rainesville Ranchers

What is your type?

Strong rugged and cowboy? If so, I have just the guy for you, in fact I have six of them in The Rainesville Ranchers. Six love affairs set on and around the Texas ranch and hometown of the Courtright family.
The cast of characters: Six guys, six girls. Six stories all in one novel.
The guys:
Royce Stevens. Ranch Foreman.Tall and rugged with jet black hair, big blue eyes and secretly in love.
Trace Evans. The Courtrights' neighbor with a bad boy reputation, but is there a reason? Guys get hurt too.
Eric Courtright. Tall, handsome, the oldest of the four Courtright brothers, very responsible, but will he put his siblings’ happiness first, or follow the love of his life?
Ben Courtright. Youngest of the Courtright siblings, cute, playful and adored by every woman who came into contact with him, but is that what he really wants? Or is he seeking that one special love?
Jay Courtright. Tall blond and quick tempered. One of the middle two siblings and part of the duo known as ‘double trouble’. Who can tame this guy, the most volatile of all the Courtright siblings?
Cash Courtright. The last of the siblings in the ranch house alone, and enjoying it…at least for a while. He's the second half of the well-known middle two, known as ‘double trouble’, and quickly discovers that his future may lead him in an entirely different direction than the rest of his family.
The girls:
Miranda Courtright. Short, cheeky, a little bit feisty, and able to keep all of her brothers in line, or at the very least confuse them.
Delaney Sommerville. Former resident of Rainesville, can she stay, or is she destined to continually live her life in limbo?
Darcey Louisa Mason. Owner of the local watering hole The Golden Saloon, secretly in love and stunned when she is given an opportunity to get to know the one member of the Courtright clan she’s admired from afar for years. But will it all slip through her fingers?
Arianna Beaufort. Interior designer, what could possibly induce her to stay on a Texas ranch? A fish out of water? Maybe, maybe not.
Isabella Pavellini. Southern Italian chef, from a family of Italian restaurant owners, who or what can keep her in Texas?
Viola Hardington. English singer of the touring group The Hardingtons, could she be tempted by anyone to stay in Rainesville or is it the other way around? Can she change a cowboy’s mind about his future and where he really belongs?
Find out how these six vastly different guys and girls work out their differences and find love together in The Rainesville Ranchers.
